announcing the girl friday/lunch box culottes sew-along

If you've been meaning to sew a pair of Girl Friday or Lunch Box Culottes but haven't had the chance yet, now's the perfect time to get started! Next month, we'll be hosting a Girl Friday/Lunch Box Culottes Sew-Along, and you're invited to join in. We’ll kick things off by introducing the sew-along, where we’ll cover everything you need to know about fabric selection and supplies to make your culottes. Once you’ve got your pattern and materials sorted out, you’ll have time to gather everything before we dive into the project together. Let’s talk about what these culottes are all about: **Girl Friday Culottes:** These wide, pleated culottes are incredibly versatile. They’re dressy enough for work or formal occasions but comfortable enough for a busy day of running errands. Whether you’re biking around town or hiking on the weekend, these stylish culottes have you covered. With front and back inverted box pleats, front pleats, and back darts, they offer a polished look without being complicated to sew. They’re designed to hit mid-length, but you can easily adjust them to suit your preference. The waistband features either a button or a hook and eye closure, along with hidden side pockets and a side zipper. Best of all, these details are easy to execute! **Lunch Box Culottes:** Designed for girls, these culottes resemble a split skirt and are just as versatile. From biking to playing on the monkey bars, these wide pleated culottes are perfect for active kids. They feature front and back inverted box pleats, back elastic for comfort, and hidden side pockets. **Suggested Fabrics:** - **Girl Friday:** For a softer look, try double gauze, lawn, or voile. For a crisper feel, opt for linen, twill, broadcloth, denim, chambray, gabardine, or even fine-wale corduroy. - **Lunch Box:** Light- to medium-weight fabrics like quilting cotton, broadcloth, chambray, denim, fine-wale corduroy, twill, gabardine, and linen work great. **Notions Needed:** - **Girl Friday:** Coordinating thread, a 7-inch zipper, lightweight fusible interfacing for the waistband, and either a ½ inch button or a large hook and eye. - **Lunch Box:** Coordinating thread, lightweight fusible interfacing, and approximately 18 inches of ¾ inch elastic. Before we begin the sew-along, make sure you’ve taken care of the following: - Purchase your pattern - Determine your size - Buy and prepare your fabric (wash, dry, and iron it) - Get your pattern pieces ready - Cut your fabric and transfer any necessary markings - Review the instructions Here’s the schedule for the sew-along: - **Day 1:** Stitch the darts, assemble the culottes, and create the pleats. - **Day 2:** Attach the pockets, insert the zipper, stitch the side seams, and finish the pockets. - **Day 3:** Attach the waistband and complete the culottes. We really hope you’ll join us! Feel free to use this optional badge on your blog to showcase your participation. [Optional Badge Image] Gather your pattern, fabric, and supplies, and we’ll see you here on Tuesday, January 6th! We can’t wait to see what you create.
