If you've been meaning to try out sewing a pair of Girl Friday or Lunch Box Culottes but haven't gotten around to it yet, now's your chance! We're excited to announce an upcoming Girl Friday/Lunch Box Culottes Sew-Along happening next month. It’s a fantastic opportunity to finally make those culottes you've always wanted while learning along with others.
To help you prepare, today we’re kicking things off by sharing everything you'll need to get started. Whether you're new to sewing or a seasoned pro, this sew-along is designed to guide you step-by-step through creating these stylish and comfortable culottes.
### About the Culottes:
- **Girl Friday:** These wide, pleated culottes offer the perfect balance between comfort and style. They can easily transition from a casual day of running errands to something more polished for the office. With their front and back inverted box pleats, along with hidden side pockets and a side zipper, they’re both functional and chic. The waistband features either a button or hook-and-eye closure, making them easy to customize.
- **Lunch Box:** Designed for girls, these culottes mimic a skirt while offering the practicality of pants. Ideal for active kids, they feature pull-on styling, front and back inverted box pleats, and elastic in the back for a comfortable fit. Hidden side pockets add an extra touch of convenience.
### Fabric Suggestions:
- **Girl Friday:** Opt for soft fabrics such as double gauze, lawn, or voile if you're going for a lighter look. For a more structured appearance, consider crisp fabrics like linen, twill, or even fine-wale corduroy.
- **Lunch Box:** Lightweight to medium-weight woven fabrics like quilting cotton, chambray, or gabardine work beautifully for this pattern.
### Notions:
- **Girl Friday:** Coordinating thread, a 7-inch zipper, lightweight fusible interfacing for the waistband, and either a 1/2-inch button or a large hook and eye.
- **Lunch Box:** Coordinating thread, lightweight fusible interfacing, and approximately 18 inches of 3/4-inch elastic.
### Before You Begin:
Make sure to take care of the prep work before diving into the sew-along. This includes purchasing your pattern, determining your size, washing and ironing your fabric, cutting your fabric, transferring any necessary markings, and reviewing the instructions.
### Sew-Along Schedule:
- **Day 1:** Stitch the darts, assemble the culottes, and create the pleats.
- **Day 2:** Attach the pockets, insert the zipper, stitch the side seams, and finish the pockets.
- **Day 3:** Add the waistband and complete the final touches.
