neha’s lisboa shorts

Neha recently updated her latest Lisboa Shorts with some hand embroidery, and I must say, the personal touch this simple technique brings to the garment is simply delightful. For my very first attempt at making Lisboa Shorts, I decided to go for a basic version featuring back pockets, crafted from cotton twill fabric. Lately, I've developed a keen interest in embroidery, always eager to infuse a touch of creativity into everything I make. Embellishing the back pockets of my Lisboa Shorts seemed like a fantastic idea. As a novice when it comes to embroidery, I figured starting with a small, straightforward pattern would be ideal. To begin, I carefully basted the seam allowance around the pocket to outline the area I intended to work on. Using a water-soluble pencil, I sketched the design from the bottom up. Given that my fabric is a twill weave, I concluded that sashiko thread would be the best choice for this project. I opted for a variegated sashiko thread to introduce a bit more depth and visual interest to the pattern. With a simple running stitch and a sashiko needle, I began embroidering the design directly onto the fabric, ensuring my stitches stayed within the seam allowance. While my stitches might not be perfectly precise, I’m thrilled with how the final result turned out! I constructed a size 14 with a 7-inch inseam, without making any adjustments. For my subsequent pair, I’m considering trying a size smaller in the waist, as I believe it might help reduce some of the excess fabric at the front. Overall, this was an incredibly straightforward pattern to work with, coming together quite quickly in just an afternoon of sewing. It’s an excellent choice for beginners, and I wholeheartedly recommend it! As someone who's new to making bottoms, this pattern has been a fantastic learning experience. I'm already excited about experimenting further with different fabrics and embellishments in future projects. (And yes, those ads above are really annoying, but hey, they keep the lights on for bloggers like me!) If you're thinking of giving these shorts a try, definitely give the embroidery a shot. It adds such a unique flair that makes your garment truly one-of-a-kind. Happy sewing!
