friday picks

Hello, friends! It was such a joy meeting many of you at my fitness workshop in Nashville last weekend. I always look forward to connecting with all of you in person. Since I spent quite a bit of time stuck in airports and on planes on the way back home, I've compiled some fantastic weekend reads for you. I'll try to keep this post brief so I can dive into the backlog of work I didn't get to over the weekend. If you missed it, Shelley's tutorial for the V-neck Metro Tee (or School Bus Tee) was definitely a hit—her writing was spot-on! Don't forget about the Butterfly Skirt sew-along, which wraps up today, along with the giveaway and contest, which runs until next week. I hope you'll consider entering! Next week, we'll be featuring Meredith's favorite pattern (hint: it's unisex) as well as a super cute leggings tutorial. In the meantime, what are your sewing plans for the weekend? I'm thinking of making a gingham Everyday Skirt, and S needs a longer chambray Lazy Days Skirt. She’s also been dying to use some ribbon for the hem—perhaps it’ll be a mother-daughter sewing session! --- **Pinterest Picks** Looking for cute sandals for the kids this summer? Check out this option; there are tons of other adorable styles on the same site. (I wish they came in S's size!) [![Pinterest Link](#)](https://www.pinterest.com) At first glance, I thought these jar vases were painted, but they're even cooler—they're made by inflating balloons inside jars and then deflating them once the paint dries. [![Pinterest Link](#)](https://www.pinterest.com) This adorable DIY ice cream sandwich postcard reminds me of our Keep Your Cool Smartphone Case sewing pattern. [![Pinterest Link](#)](https://www.pinterest.com) This summer quilt is absolutely stunning—it’s perfect for those warm nights ahead. [![Pinterest Link](#)](https://www.pinterest.com) The perfect summer hairstyle! I saw someone on my flight the other day wearing her hair like this, and it looked fantastic. [![Pinterest Link](#)](https://www.pinterest.com) --- **Weekend Reading Links** 1. Recently, I started using a Fitbit to track my daily steps, distance walked, and sleep patterns (spoiler alert: I need more sleep). This article about the importance of sleep for brain detoxification really resonated with me. Did you know that poor sleep can lead to even less sleep? 2. If you're an avid reader, you might already know that books can be therapeutic. But did you know there's such a thing as a bibliotherapist? I think my sister Christy, a librarian and voracious reader, would excel at this role. 3. To all the moms out there, here's another great reason to nag your kids about washing their hands. 4. 2015 has been a year of growth for me—learning more about sewing, patternmaking (it never gets old!), playing the violin, and now diving into Spanish. This article about mastering new skills makes perfect sense. What new hobby or skill are you working on? 5. Have you seen John Oliver’s segment on fast fashion? His take on the subject is both humorous and eye-opening. --- Hope you all have a fantastic weekend! I’m off to tackle my to-do list while dreaming of that gingham skirt. Take care, [Your Name]
