New Year's appreciation of value factors in many ways

During the Spring Festival, a grand exhibition of 304 pieces of New Year pictures across the country was held at the National Art Museum of China. It brought a festive mood to the Lunar New Year.

The New Year paintings were popular folk posters that were popularly posted to bring “good intentions”. In recent years, they have gradually become collectors' keen works of art. Their frequency of appearance on the auction market has increased and their prices have risen, especially in Taohuawu, Suzhou. The two fine paintings of the brand “Yang Liqing” in Tianjin Yang Liuqing are more popular, and the current value of the New Year paintings in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties was frequently tens of thousands of yuan. The New Year pictures in Foshan, Guangdong Province have also attracted market attention due to their rich Lingnan flavor.

The New Year pictures are a kind of folk crafts, including old door paintings, window grilles, etc. Even paper cutting is included in the New Year's pictures. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, the New Year's pictures were developed maturely and covered a wide range of areas. There were more than a dozen famous New Year production sites. The four most famous “townships for New Year pictures” included Suzhou Taohuawu, Tianjin Yangliuqing, Shandong Weifang and Mianzhu. "Southern Tao Liu Liu" (ie Taohuawu Suzhou and Yangliuqing Tianjin) is more precious. The main New Year production areas in Guangdong include Foshan and Chaozhou.

With the “upsurge” in the collection market, New Year pictures that are rich in the masses have also become one of the collectibles, and prices are changing with each passing day. For example, in the late Ming and early Qing dynasty woodblock prints, regardless of the subject matter, each price was at least tens of thousands of yuan. For example, at the Beijing Hanhai auction on January 11th, 2004, a Qing dynasty group's “Yang Fang invited to drink Yinxiang 榭 woodblock New Year's picture” was valued at 8,000 to 10,000 yuan, and the result was sold at 19,800 yuan. After a lapse of 6 years, the price of this New Year picture has at least doubled.

In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, the lithographs and offsets were welcomed by the market due to their long history and exquisite workmanship. Not only that, the “New Year paintings” after the 1950s have also entered the collection field. For example, on September 11th, 2006, Zhong An Taiping’s “New Year Painting Collection” was valued at only 2,500 to 4,500 yuan, resulting in 16,500 yuan. .

It has been learned from the market that model paintings of the 70s and 80s of the last century have become even more popular in recent years. Hu Yicheng, who has collected a number of New Year pictures, told the reporter that a group of model operas with good general appearances could not get a few hundred yuan each, and a whole group might get 10,000 yuan.

It is understood that in the past few years, some foreign collectors had an interest in Chinese New Year pictures. They were taken away from China in batches and caused market attention. Some collectors were invited to start special collections of New Year pictures, especially in Hong Kong.

However, not all New Year pictures are worth collecting. The current collection of New Year pictures that are still being used by the people for printing is not of high value. For example, the ordinary New Year pictures still being produced in Foshan are only priced at 5 to 10 yuan.

How do ordinary collectors determine which New Year pictures have collection value and which are ordinary prints? Many people believe that the price of New Year pictures in woodblock printing must be the highest. The collection expert Hu Yicheng believes that the type of printing technology is not an important factor in determining the price of new pictures.
