Peru may impose tax on imports of Chinese clothing

Indecopi said in a statement that they have investigated clothing imported from China and cotton fiber imported from the United States according to the legal framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The statement stated that the investigation of Chinese clothing and US cotton fibers is technically in full compliance with the applicable legal framework for the resolution of disputes.

Adex said that if a 10% surcharge is imposed on imported US cotton, it will have an adverse effect on Peru's garment exports as apparel prices will increase by approximately 4%.

At the same time, the Peruvian Foreign Trade Association (comexperu) also opposes the imposition of additional surcharges on imported Chinese clothing and US cotton, as this will affect the country’s trade and tariff policies.
